BACKGROUND:

Angelo grew up with his father and older sister. He lost his mom at a very young age, so growing up, he had to be raised by his sister while their father worked overtime to support their family. While their maternal relatives loved them all deeply, they were borderline evangelist Christians and had traditional beliefs about gender and marriage, which they pushed down onto Angelo and his sister. Their dad, on the other hand, grew up with punk ideologies and encouraged his kids to follow their own beliefs instead of what was pushed onto them.

Angelo and Ichiro had been friends for a long time, and as teenagers, they were reckless. They snuck into dive bars together and befriended members of local punk-rock bands until they formed one themselves. It was also around this time that Angelo realized he was trans. He had to remain closeted in public but his family and friends always supported him, even helping him save money for his transition.

• When Angelo was a kid, his dad got him Guitar Hero for Christmas. This made him pick up the guitar, and Ichiro learned to play the drums so they could play together.
• After Angelo came out to his dad and sister, the three of them slowly distanced themselves from their maternal family.
• He almost ended his friendship with Ichiro in his senior year because Ichiro was spending too much time on his situationships instead of the people who already cared about him.
